Joint Range Estimation Using Single Carrier Burst Signals for Networked UAVs

The localization accuracy demand is ever growing in UAV communication networks. We propose a joint coarse and fine range estimation method using single carrier burst signals with two samples per symbol for of our exploits multiple preamble symbols flexible single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) frame structures to calculate correlation metrics, which are insensitive frequency offset due the differential operation. Then, we only expectation relying on shaping or matched filter. Furthermore, derive performance bounds ranging system both raised cosine (RC) better than raised-cosine (BTRC) pulses. Finally, extensive simulations conducted validate proposed terms estimate bias variance different modulations, filters, fading channels. Our simulation results show that, root mean square errors can reach order centimeter at medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region, whereas case BTRC filter capable enhancing low SNRs.
